Many of us can remember the days when a desktop toy was the Newton's Cradle. That and a really flashy glass paperweight would be just what you'd expect to see on any executive's desk.
This is the original version, just like the ones that graced office desks decades ago.
Time has moved on since then, and so have desk toys, but the classics will never go out of fashion. One of those is the beauty of Newton's third law demonstrated with ball bearings.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. It's such a familiar mantra that it doesn't even seem like science any more. Lift one of the hanging ball bearings at one end, let it drop and watch the one at the opposite end swing away. Use two ball bearings and two will be displaced.
The Classic Newton's Cradle measures 11.5cm x 9.5cm x 13cm.
